a) Before
starting the course INF 206 Social Networking for Information Professionals I
would have defined social networking as a helpful tool that lets me stay in
contact with my friends and family. Once
I began this course and read through the first few modules my conception of
social networking began to expand. After viewing at the social media landscapes
by Fred Cavazza (2011) I realised that my understanding of social networking
was limited and that by the end of this course I would know more about the
different ways use people social networks and what exactly social networking
is.
b)
I have used several social networking sites
before starting this course. I have been
using Facebook since I began my Tafe course in 2008. I used it to keep in touch
and talk with fellow students and collaborate on assignments. I have used MSN
Messenger an IM service to chat with friends during high school. But I stopped
using this when I started using Facebook as it also lets users IM each other. I
have started using Skype to keep in contact with my fellow university students.
We use Skype to have conversations, discuss the courses we are taking and talk
over other university issues.
c)
Once completing the course Social Networking for
Information Professionals I hope to be able to utilise all of the most common
social media sites and tools. After the course I expect I will be able to
instruct other staff in using social technology and help library customers with
any problems that can occur with their social technology. I hope to have an
understanding of web 2.0 technology that can be used in a library setting and
be able to use library 2.0 to help future library’s that I may be employed in.
